Community Relations Practice and Young People
The Community Relations Council (CRC) is organising an event at the Jethro Centre in Lurgan. It will bring together community relations practitioners, representatives and teachers to explore youth engagement and community relations issues.
The event will offer an opportunity to find out about the work of the Community Relations Council and the work of CRC’s Core funded groups. Inputs will focus on community relations interventions and programmes that support the curriculum, which bring benefits to schools and pupils, and which make a positive contribution to peace building and reconciliation.
You will hear from practitioners who have worked directly with schools on issues influencing community relations. During these contributions, you will find out about some of the methods and programmes used to have these, sometimes, difficult conversations regarding identity and culture, and which help build confidence and support for diversity.
As part of the event, there will be an interactive session. Teachers and practitioners will undertake small group work and explore practical ways of delivering a good relations intervention in the classroom. This engagement will support capacity building, and will offer a platform for brainstorming future engagement. .
The event aims to increase your understanding of the work of the Community Relations Council and its funded groups, a greater awareness of community relations interventions supporting the curriculum, and practical support and ideas for taking this work forward with your own school.
Speakers include Cathy Bollaert, Youthlink; and Fintan Brady, Partisan Productions.
